A handheld game using accelerometer inputs controlling an 8x8 RGB LED matrix display with seven-segment timer.
The Project
Created with Divya Gunasekaran, TiNZ reimagines a classic tilt-maze game using modern technology. The system features a challenging game that takes the user’s movements as inputs via an accelerometer to control gameplay on an RGB LED matrix display.
Technical Components
- Accelerometer input for player movement
- RGB LED matrix (8x8) for visual display
- Seven-segment display for timer and score
- Piezo speaker for audio feedback
Creative Design
The maze designs showcase creative themes:
- Multicolor fire-breathing dragon
- Volcano
- Alien spacecraft with laser elements
The modular design allows for easy reprogramming of additional levels and features.
Learning Outcomes
The project provided hands-on experience with:
- Digital circuits and logic design
- VHDL FPGA programming
- Accelerometer integration
- Multi-segment RGB LED display programming
- Piezo speaker control
Reflection
Perhaps the most fulfilling class I have ever taken. The playable prototype generated interest at multiple Engineering School events.
